Arms Warrior PvE Guide

Arms in PvE is primarily a utility DPS spec: its Mortal Strike applies the −50% healing debuff that matters on a handful of encounters, and Arms brings solid two-handed burst. For pure single-target raid DPS, though, Fury (dual-wield) is the standard Warrior raid spec.

Overview

Bring Arms when a fight wants the Mortal Strike debuff or when you prefer the two-handed playstyle; otherwise Fury parses higher.

Strengths

  • +Mortal Strike healing debuff for specific encounters
  • +Strong two-handed burst
  • +Simple, sturdy rotation

Weaknesses

  • Lower sustained raid DPS than Fury
  • Rage-starved without steady incoming damage

  • Hit Rating: 9% special-attack (yellow) cap when striking a boss from behind. Dual-wield white swings need ~24% and are not worth chasing.
  • Expertise: 26 expertise (≈102 rating) removes a boss's 6.5% dodge — each point of expertise cuts dodge/parry by 0.25%. Parry only happens from the front, so staying behind means you only need to beat dodge.

Recommended talent build

33/28/0 · Raid

The standard Arms raid build: deep Arms for Mortal Strike and Blood Frenzy — the 4% physical damage debuff that justifies the spot — with the Fury side filled to Flurry for slam-weave throughput. PvP variants move points from slam talents into Second Wind and Improved Intercept; use the calculator to adapt it.

Single-target rotation

  1. 1Keep Battle Shout up and open in Battle Stance.
  2. 2Mortal Strike on cooldown (and for the healing debuff where it matters).
  3. 3Whirlwind on cooldown; Slam in the gaps when rage allows.
  4. 4Overpower on dodge procs; Execute below 20%.
  5. 5Pop Recklessness + Death Wish + trinkets with Bloodlust.

Weave Slam between Mortal Strike and Whirlwind without clipping your swing timer, and keep Battle Shout up for the raid. Hit-cap first, then stack Strength/AP and crit. Choose Arms for the MS debuff or two-handed preference; Fury is the higher-DPS default.
