Restoration Shaman PvE Guide

Restoration Shaman is a premier raid healer built around Chain Heal — a smart, bouncing heal that's absurdly efficient in stacked groups — and, of course, Bloodlust/Heroism. Your Mana Spring/Healing Stream totems, Earth Shield on the tank, and group healing make you a staple in every TBC raid comp.

Overview

You play a Chain Heal-centric healing game, keep Earth Shield rolling on a tank, and manage your totem drops for the raid.

Strengths

  • +Chain Heal is the most efficient group heal in the game
  • +Bloodlust/Heroism — a raid-defining cooldown
  • +Earth Shield + totems bring strong tank and raid support

Weaknesses

  • Chain Heal wants stacked groups to shine
  • Weaker at pure single-target tank healing than a Paladin

Recommended talent build

0/5/56 · Arena

The standard 0/5/56 arena build for Restoration Shaman. Everything funnels into Restoration: Earth Shield is the whole reason the spec dominates 5v5, Nature's Swiftness turns a kill window into a full Healing Wave, and the three PvP-defining utility talents — Healing Focus (pushback), Focused Mind (silence/interrupt duration), and Healing Grace (30% dispel resistance on Earth Shield at max rank) — are all non-negotiable against competent teams. The five leftover points go to Ancestral Knowledge in Enhancement for a flat 5% mana pool, which outperforms anything else you can buy with five points.

Healing priority

  1. 1Keep Earth Shield on the main tank; refresh before charges run out.
  2. 2Chain Heal as your main group heal; Lesser Healing Wave for fast single-target.
  3. 3Drop Mana Spring / Healing Stream and the raid's assigned totems.
  4. 4Bloodlust/Heroism at the optimal burn or heavy-damage window.
  5. 5Manage mana with Water Shield and downranking on light damage.

Chain Heal is your bread and butter — position so it bounces to the most hurt targets, and keep Earth Shield on the tank at all times. Provide Bloodlust at the called window and keep your totems relevant. Downrank and use Water Shield to stay efficient across a long fight.

Common mistakes

  • Letting Earth Shield drop off the tank.
  • Chain Healing spread targets where it can't bounce efficiently.
  • Forgetting or mistiming Bloodlust — coordinate it with the raid.

FAQ

Why is Resto Shaman in every raid?

Chain Heal efficiency plus Bloodlust/Heroism, Earth Shield and mana totems make it a mandatory raid healer and buffer.

How do I maximize Chain Heal?

Stand where it can bounce between grouped, injured targets, and assign yourself to a stacked melee/caster group. See the stat caps for the mp5/healing balance.
