Enhancement Shaman PvE Guide

Enhancement Shaman is a melee-DPS support that's mandatory in a melee group for its totems: Windfury Totem massively boosts the group's melee damage, Strength of Earth buffs AP, and Grace of Air adds Agility. Your personal DPS is solid, but the Windfury Totem you bring makes every melee next to you hit harder — a huge raid multiplier.

Overview

You play a Stormstrike/Shock priority with Lava Lash and weave in Flametongue/Windfury weapon, all while keeping the group's totems perfect.

Strengths

  • +Windfury Totem is a massive melee-group damage buff
  • +Strength of Earth / Grace of Air round out melee support
  • +Bloodlust/Heroism plus respectable personal DPS

Weaknesses

  • Value is tied to being in a melee group
  • Gear- and hit-dependent to reach its damage ceiling

  • Hit Rating: 9% special-attack (yellow) cap when striking a boss from behind. Dual-wield white swings need ~24% and are not worth chasing.
  • Expertise: 26 expertise (≈102 rating) removes a boss's 6.5% dodge — each point of expertise cuts dodge/parry by 0.25%. Parry only happens from the front, so staying behind means you only need to beat dodge.

Recommended talent build

The Elemental-sub Enhancement build: Stormstrike, Flurry and Unleashed Rage at the core with early Elemental for Call of Thunder crit. The melee-group multiplier build — Windfury Totem placement matters more than your own parse.

Melee priority

  1. 1Drop Windfury, Strength of Earth and Grace of Air totems for the melee group.
  2. 2Stormstrike on cooldown, then Earth Shock/Flame Shock and Lava Lash by priority.
  3. 3Keep Flametongue or Windfury weapon imbue up; maintain your shock priority.
  4. 4Reach the melee hit/expertise your specials need before stacking AP/Agility.
  5. 5Bloodlust at the burn window; align trinkets with it.

Your totems come first — Windfury Totem for the group is worth more than a few personal DPS. Keep Stormstrike on cooldown, weave shocks, and maintain your weapon imbue. Hit and expertise matter a lot for Enhancement's yellow hits; cap those, then stack AP and Agility. Sync Bloodlust with the raid's burst.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping the wrong totems or missing Windfury Totem for the melee.
  • Under hit/expertise cap, causing missed Stormstrikes.
  • Letting the weapon imbue (Windfury/Flametongue) lapse.

FAQ

Why is Enhancement wanted in raids?

Windfury Totem is a large melee-group damage buff, on top of Strength of Earth, Grace of Air and Bloodlust. One Enhancement Shaman lifts an entire melee group.

What stats matter for Enhancement?
