Restoration Druid PvE Guide

Restoration Druid is a premier raid healer specializing in HoT throughput. Rolling Lifebloom stacks and Rejuvenation on tanks and raid make you the most efficient sustained healer for constant damage, and Tree of Life form boosts your healing and gives the group a mana aura. You're the HoT engine of the healing team, complementing a Paladin's direct tank heals and a Priest/Shaman's group healing.

Overview

You play a HoT-maintenance game: keep Lifebloom rolling on the tank, blanket Rejuvenation where damage is going out, and manage mana across a long fight.

Strengths

  • +Best-in-slot HoT throughput for sustained/rolling damage
  • +Tree of Life healing bonus + mana aura for the group
  • +Innervate and battle-rez utility

Weaknesses

  • Weak burst healing — HoTs pre-empt damage rather than react
  • Lifebloom management is fiddly and mana-intensive

Recommended talent build

0/0/61 · Raid

The full Restoration build: Tree of Life, Improved Lifebloom-era HoT mastery and Nature's Swiftness, 61 points deep in one tree — resto druids are the only spec in TBC that spends everything at home. The raid-HoT standard; arena resto uses the same core.

Healing priority

  1. 1Keep a Lifebloom stack rolling on the main tank; refresh before it blooms (or let it bloom by design).
  2. 2Blanket Rejuvenation on targets taking sustained damage; Regrowth for a bigger single-target HoT.
  3. 3Swiftmend to convert a HoT into an instant when someone spikes.
  4. 4Stay in Tree of Life form for the healing bonus + mana aura.
  5. 5Innervate yourself or a healer; manage mana across the fight.

Resto Druid healing is proactive HoT blanketing. Keep Lifebloom on the tank, pre-HoT before predictable damage, and use Swiftmend for the occasional instant on a spike. You shine on sustained raid damage; let Paladins handle single-target tank spikes and Priests/Shamans handle burst AoE. Watch mana — rolling Lifebloom is expensive.

Best race (PvE)

Taurenhorde

Only option — War Stomp has niche PvE uses and Endurance (+5% health) is pure survivability.

Night Elfalliance

Only option — Quickness (+2% dodge) helps Feral tanking and Shadowmeld has occasional raid utility.

Common mistakes

  • Mismanaging the Lifebloom stack (accidental blooms or letting it drop).
  • Trying to reactively burst-heal spikes (HoTs are proactive — pre-cast them).
  • Running oom by over-rolling Lifebloom on too many targets.

FAQ

What's a Resto Druid's raid role?

The HoT engine — best sustained/rolling healing via Lifebloom and Rejuvenation, plus Tree of Life's healing bonus and mana aura. It complements direct-heal Paladins and burst-AoE Priests/Shamans.

How do I manage Lifebloom?

Keep a stack on the tank and refresh it before it blooms for efficient rolling healing, or let it bloom intentionally for a burst tick. It's mana-intensive, so don't over-spread it.
